Restoration at its best

The Big Figure's Kit ( DR. Feelgood)

The kit arrived in the workshop in a complete state. It had obviously been played hard, touring the world in and out of trucks and venues and it was now crying out for some much needed TLC.

On inspection of the kit i noticed that it had previously been restored (badly i might add). Re-drilled holes were done roughly, Mismatched parts, chipped bearing edges, the bass drum hoop was cracked and useless, the once shining glitter wrap was now de-laminating, the chrome was bubbled and cracked and the glitter wrap was now looking rather dull.

John Martin's (AKA The Big Figure from DR.Feelgood) brief was to restore this Gretch kit to its former glory.

We stripped the entire kit of its hardware, sourced replacement parts from the UK and the USA to match the original hardware, the shells were T-cut and with an awful lot of elbow grease they came up beautifully. The de-laminating wrap was re-glued and the bearing edges were re-shaped and flattened. A Yamaha Tom mount was requested and fitted and we placed brand new Evans heads on all the drums. (Evans heads are perfect for Vintage Gretch drums as they are a perfect fit).

"My poor Gretsch kit already old at purchase in 1970 was in a sad way. Being in a rock band the tom holders needed better stability and over time degeneration had set in.

Preston at Tiki drums has achieved the impossible by making my kit look all new and shiny but keeping the history intact and adding much improved holders and spurs and my Black Beauty looks and sounds killer.
